One more Tournament?

How about another St. Louis River Tournament date, like maybe Sept. 7th. The catch and release rules don't start until Sept. 14th I think. The Sept. Smallie bite on the river can be awesome!!, 19-20 inchers are common and besides some of us aren't ready to give up the great competiton and fun we have on Thursday nights.

The multi-species guys will be out there on Aug. 21 and we fish the 24th. Could be a lot of sore lipped Smallies by Thurs. night. If we add a another tournament on the Sept. 7th the Smallie bit should be awesome!! as the fishing pressure will have lightened up and those Smallie will have had a couple of weeks to get healthy.

I'm game for doing something like this.   But lets make it an optional SLR tournament and add a money pot for those that want to do it.  It's too late to add it as another night for this year.  So we can do as an optional one time night for the SLR if any teams are interested.  RO,  if you get a chance to talk to some of the teams and I'll talk to some at the next night, we can kind of get an idea of who might participate.  Sound good?   Let me know.

Added 8/28/2006 to be on first page of this topic:

Ok, here is the date and times:

Thursday Sept. 7th, 4:30 - 8:00 at Smithville / Clyde Ave. Landing.  This landing is the next one further down river from Boy Scout.

Rules so far:
Team format, 1-2 anglers per boat.
6 fish limit.
14" Minimum fish length (Law)

I guess the most important thing right now is the date and times.  I haven't decided on any money amounts if any for this tourney.  Or if we are going Total Length or Total Weight.

Here's what I'm leaning to right now:

Total Length (rounded to the nearest 1/4") of 6 fish
$15 per team :
$5 goes to a big fish pot
     Payout for 1st - 3rd Place (50%, 30%, 20%).

Payout would vary depending on how many teams show up.

Alright get the word out to the other teams and have them call me at 218-590-1712 or email at ouitdee@yahoo.com to let me know that your team will be participating.

Also please let me know your thoughts on how we should score (length or weight) and anything about the entry fees or maybe we shouldn't have any at all?

Later.

Ok I'm probably gonna show my ignorance here, but what is "SLR"? Also,  why is it too late to add a night to the tournament season? That of course if everyone agrees. There's plenty of time to notify everyone.

SLR was just my easy way of typing out St. Louis River :)

I'm not saying that it's not doable to add another night this year,  but I wanted to stick to this year's game plan and then start making the changes for next year.  Like if we do this extra night, the fishing is good, the fish plentiful, then maybe we can add this to next years schedule.  I don't have trophies to hand out for this last night (not a big deal, but we've handed them out on every other night).   We don't have gift certificates to hand our either for this last night.

So what if the first place team,  Catching Bass, wins the overall league title after the next night.  Then we do another night and they can't make it or get blown away and they lose.  I'm not talking for them, cause they might not care and go another night.  I'm just bringing up scenarios.

If we just leave it like it is, everyone knows what to expect for the entire season.  We only had one minor change this year and that was Sand Lake from Caribou Lake.

For this year, let's make it an open invite and every team puts in a pot.  If we have it open, the DABL teams can be more flexible and possible bring in some new teams.  Plus it might be a good way for some of the DABL to try swap partners around or try new partners.  I'm not saying I need a new partner, heck I don't even know if I can make this night, because it wasn't on my schedule.

Does that sound cool RO, I'm willing to try to make this extra night happen, but take out all the DABL stuff from it and just make it a one time open event.  Some of the Monday night guys might even want to do this.

Peace.
