Hey if you are a new team, introduce yourself and let us know a little about you and your fishing experience and what you are hoping to learn (or do, like win).
If you are interested in joining us, join right in and contact Ouitdee or Doug to sign up. You will be glad you did.
I will go first. My name is Doug Pirila, I work for St. Louis County as a Systems Analyst heading up our web programming team and supervising programming. I work Fishing Webmaster on the side and love fishing. That's why I (with the help of JD Durward) started the Minnesota Multispecies Tournament Series in 1999, it was called TGIF, Thank God I'm Fishing back then. We have had steady growth and a solid core group of anglers, a bunch of great guys.
We are starting the Bass League due to interest in it. We have a great coordinator to handle the bass league, Ouitdee Carson, who was fishing MMTS but with a baby due he doesn't have the time needed for the bigger MMTS commitment of 13 nights, prefishing and many species to keep up to. He will be great in the Bass League, that's why he picked bass. We will have to make him work for it. I will be helping and coordinator as needed.
I have a Lund 1700 Pro Sport with a 90hp Yamaha. Not a fancy boat, but I am wearing the paint and carpet off with use. I have fished the MMTS all 6 years and been in the top 5 each year. I have fished the World Walleye Assoc. Minnesota division and took 12 overall, when I did not have the opportunity to prefish enough. Just wait a few years... I have fished and won several small tournaments, but none for bass. I will enjoy learning this, so take it easy on us.
My biggest stringer of bass was a limit of 6 weighting 24-26 pounds (was in magazine print) and my biggest smallmouth was 23.5 inches (came to a muskie bucktail). Both were not what I started out fishing for, but with the stringer, after two nice smallmouth when fishing for walleyes, I just switched to bass and had a great day. Hey they wanted to bite, who was I to argue.
I am hoping to learn a lot more about bass, largemouth and smallmouth and become a more rounded tournament angler. Some day there is going to be a BIG Multispecies tournament series and I will be ready. I would like to win one night but not expecting to do more then give it our best and have fun. I will be asking lots of questions and trying to pick up tips and tricks over beer and pizza too.
Who's next?
My name is Ouitdee Carson and will be fishing the bass league. I hope this will be a fun and exciting league just chasing for bass. As Doug mentioned in the above post, I won't have a lot of time to do some fishing, so I helped start the Duluth Bass League. At least I'll have one night where I can still fish and be part of a tournament.
I work for St. Louis County and we'lll be fishing with Dave Anderson of Duluth. We both like to fly fish for bass and trout. Maybe we can win a night where we just use fly rods? We both like to fish for bass and with him just getting married and working alot during the summer, we can still get at least some fishing in.
We're doing this league to have some fun and maybe pick up a few new techniques for catching bass, plus meet some new faces on the water chasing the same fish.
Tournament fishing is not for everyone. I enjoy it quite a bit, win or lose. I think in the end it helps you make better decisions and makes you become a better fisherman. So when your out enjoying some "regular" fishing time, you'll be much better off on where the fish are and how to catch them. This is Dave's first tournament experience, so he should have a blast.
Later,
I think this group will be a blast. I am betting fish will get caught, beer will get drank, pizza will be eaten, and everyone will have a great time. We will all meet some new fishing partners and learn more about bass fishing. I know that's one thing I need to do most in my multispecies fishing.
Like with the multispecies groups this group will have some serious anglers and some just for fun and to have the day of fishing. Hey I started fishing leagues to get away from the old saying "I hope I fish more next year." I have and I love it. Now I say "I hope to fish as much as last year." And I usually come close with 85-100 days a year. I am a better angler for it and happier. That's all good.
Good fishing..
Hey Brad, I think the handle "BassAckwards" would fit you, since that's your team name.. Just Kidding. And Ouitdee... yeah right just for fun.. You're the Bass Master here. We'll be looking for you on the water.. I know I will be keeping track of where you go.
LMAOROF thats good stuff.
My Name is Tom Linderholm, I have a fishing obsession. While I may not get out 85-100 times a year when I am out I fish like I do! Would love to get in the league but don't have the time to commit to 2.
Is this thing still going to allow folks to jump in a couple nights as available or is it going to be an end of the year score deal?
