Just wanted to wish all of you a great fishing year. I'm too far away to join in the fun up there. I contacted some people from the Duluth Bass Club several years ago about the largemouth that I had found in St. Louis Bay. Just curious as to whether any of you have caught any in the last several years. Pretty sporadic fishing for them, most were caught in the back ends of Little Kimbal's Bay and Kilner Bay. All were fat and sassy with the largest tipping the scale at just over 4 pounds. I showed that particular fish to Joe Davidoski (sp), the game warden who lived around the corner from me. All that I had caught there went back into the water so there should be some survivors. I lived on the bay on the Wiscosin side and fished there often. It really is a great fishery for smallmouth, walleye, crappie, northern, and muskie. Mostly, just curious on the largemouth issue. I left Superior in 1995 and haven't fished in the area after I left.
Again, good luck fishing in the upcoming year
Hi Timberspin, welcome to multispecies.com and glad to have you here.
Yes some of us have seen the largemouth on the river. I have caught largemouth each spring for a few years now. If you look into our photo gallery you will some of the 16-18 inch largemouth we have caught there. Not many know where to go, but when they are on their spawning beds they are easy. After spawn they are a bit more difficult to get to, but we are learning more about them every year. Keep in touch and if you're up here on a league or anytime, just drop us a line.
Welcome aboard..
Thanks for the reply. I'm glad to hear that largemouth still exist in the St, Louis Bay. With any luck, I should get up that way sometime in the coming year. I have a friend that lives in Superior and we share the love for fishing.
I knew there was another person besides TenaciousD that knew were the largemouth were hiding. I've only caught 1 largemouth out of the river. Last year was the first time I saw babies swimming around. They were all around 3"-6" swimming around some weeds in a back bay.
So it does look like the largemouth might be making a good home for themselves. But personally I think there only can be one dominant type of bass, either smallmouth or largemouth. And the Smallmouth rule the St. Louis River right now. The largemouth will probably fill those areas that the smallmouth are not.

Were getting filled up fast with teams that have paid their entry fee, so don't wait to long to get your entry fee in if you want a spot.
