I am starting to think BeerCan has had a couple beers while catfishing.  Man, I can tell you speedy, there is some good catfishing in this area.  I fish them every year in the Floodwood Catfish Festival.  We have done very well in it.  They are certainly clean and eatable around Floodwood and all the rivers around there.  I fish them from just North of Floodwood to the St. Louis River Bay.  There are a lot of good spots to fish.  My kids and I will fish from shore every night and haven't used a boat, except a couple times.  So if you want to see a few spots that's no problem.  I like the Brookston area to Floodwood.  The cats are channels and bigger as you get closer to Duluth, but that's because the water gets bigger too.  I am still betting on Jay Cooke Park having some monsters, but I haven't fished it enough.  We just bought a new fishing rod for catfishing that has a flashlight designed into it.  Now you turn it on and it shoots up the inside of the fishing rod.  It's a medium heavy and 7 feet long, so it's the size I like for the cats around here.

Oh yeah the cats in the bay may not be the cleanest, but they are bigger on average.  Of course there are some good areas west of Brookston and even on some of the smaller area rivers, where they get less pressure.

Catfish fillets are awesome eating and few people can tell them apart from walleyes.  The difference is that they are flakier and big and white.  Just be sure to cut out the lateral line and the bloody fat parts.  That's what people think tastes muddy.

Well let's keep in touch, maybe MMTS needs to have an annual catfish night and a few beers.  I think that would be a blast.  You know Speedy, you guys could stop by the league meeting, talk to the guys and get a lot of fishing info too.  Everyone is welcome.  Look for us in the banquet room at Mr. D's, tonight at 7:00pm.
