Musky Net???

When I get my "BUSH BUCKS" I'm going to go out and purchase a good musky net. What are some recommendations for: 1. Brand. and 2. Size.  and is there anything else I should look/think about when purchasing one.

Thanks

Robbo

By far the most important thing when purchasing a muskie net is to make sure it has the protective coating on it.  This not only keeps your hooks from getting tangled in the net but more importantly protects the fish while it is in the net.

Secondly spend the extra money and get the biggest net there is.  This is very important as you can then use it as an in-water live well while you unhook the fish, look for the camera, clean out your pants etc.  The fish should be out of the water for only 5 to 10 seconds at the very most.  If Doug had a big net his 48 incher might still be terrorizing small worthless crappies instead of sitting in some taxidermists freezer.

Both Frabill and Beckman make excellant nets, and I beleive both are in the low $100 range.  Even though it has been a while since I looked at prices.

What about a cradle. Never used one before. What are the pro and cons.

The biggest downside to a cradle is how tough it is to get the hooks out of the fish without removing it from the water, especially if you are fishing alone.  Another downside is unless you have experience with the cradle it can require you to wear the fish down further before landing it, which greatly reduces your chance at a successful release; especially during the warmer water months.

Fish are only supposed to grow in stories if they are released.  If someone is charging by the inch of course they are going to want to maximize their profits and have the fish fit a mold they already have made.
