Rod:  (in my opinion) Needs to be at least med-heavy with a stiff backbone.

Just curious were you using a baitcaster or spinning rod?

I just wanted to clarify my self on my own quote. What I mean by a stiff back bone. In other words it needs to be a "FAST ACTION" rod.

This is what I run.

St. Croix Premier /PS6.6XHF

So in laymens terms:

Premier Spinning - 6.6ft - Extra-Heavy Power - Fast Action - SC" Graphite

Reel:  I am running a Quantum Catalyst PTi 40 with 20lb PowerPro Superline.

I have never actual gone fishing for smallmouth. I have caught three in my life and they were all on back to back casts.

The largest being 2.2lbs  on Fishhook lake in Park Rapids. At dusk with a top water popper.

I have to say they were the best bass I have ever caught in terms of the fight. They fight way more the a largemouth.(in my opinion)

I would really like to come up your way and actually fish for smallmouth.

Can someone help me get my alias back to AQUAJOE when I try it won't save.

(I should change it to TopWater Joe thats what I fish with 90% of the time)

Joe, the forum is kinda strange in that part.  The default alias when u first sign up is your username.  Then when you change it and want to change it back to username in the forum database, it won't let you.  It should let you change your alias back to your username if your the person that is signed on, i'll look into that.  Otherwise you can change it to any other Alias that has not been used before.

I see you work with computers.  Me and President do the same thing up here

"TheBassMaster", that's a good one Driftboat....  Ha ha..  You will have the chance to be the Bass Master this year, and I hope you do.  Hey AquaJoe, just keep in touch with the BassMaster and me and we'll get you out for some great smallmouth bass up this way.  The Bass Master does have the bites down very well up here, so it should be a blast.  But I still like the idea of meeting on a lake with some big bass and having a hogger party for them pigs..  It would be fun to see what we could find if we just go for one big pig each.  Bring the cameras and lets see if we can get a monster to record.  We could put the pic out here.

Hey Topwater Joe, do you want to stay as Topwater Joe or get back to AquaJoe?  We can help if you want to change back...

Cool a Hog party is going to happen.  The Driftboat and I will show you what a smallmouth hogger party is.  Maybe you can show us a hogger bite down there.  That's a great swap.  Road trips for fishing are great things..

We will see what we need to do to get you back to AquaJoe.
