They are starting to come around. I've heard of any big brutes 20"+ coming in more often, but I've heard of few close pushing 19-20. When you start seeing more 16"+ being caught, it's getting more to that time when the big boys start coming out to play. So the fishing has been good so so for fish 14" - 16" fish and is starting to pick up on the river. If your targeting smaller fish, you can catch them all day long and lots of them.
I can feel the weather starting to change with cooler nights and we are starting to get some cool rains now, which is good. The water temps are still in the mid to lower 70's which is still a little warm for the big smallmouth to be consistently in the shallows. This is also around the time when you can catch some really nice walleye on the river as well.
I'll be breaking out the fly rod this year more for some fall pike and smallmouth action, it should be a blast!
