Would like to know where you guys find largemouth on the river? I know wisconsin has stocked lm bass but i can not find any lost hope until i seen this forum. Ive fished up and down the pokegamon bay, whiteside islands, behind the steel plant. I've caught more walleyes (3) not to mention pike on spinnerbaits than Bass. Generally use spinnerbaits and top water to locate them to no avail. a little help on location any tricks or lure choice would be welcomed. I know lot of you fish the bass league and maybe don't want your secrets public feel free to email me as i love lm bass fishing and being from west duluth it would be alot closer to get my fix.
Thanks

Yeah, the Largemouth Bass are rare on the river so far. But I know of a bay below Smithville with a lot of small largies too, so the population is growing and doing well. I have caught several largemouth over 16 inches on the river and another largie caught by someone else was over 20 inches and scored in league from a Wisconsin bay. So they are all over the river, just not enough of them to be easy to find or catch yet. All known Largemouth Bass locations and bites are inconsistent to date.
I agree that at this point there are not enough of them to post a location, but if we get out, we could try some. I have several locations, but smallmouth still rule the river and will for years. Besides the smallmouth are big and healthy, so they make a good catch too. But if you want to get out for some big largemouth, there are some awesome waters in the area, and you will be surprised at the numbers out there. But contact us on our emails and we will set you up. A surprise might be that Fish Lake has a population of largemouth bass. I doubt many anglers know that. Everyone knows about Caribou, Chub, Island (by Moose Lake), Sturgeon Lake, and many others have a lot of Largemouth in them. Vermilion has a lot too and for years now, even though there are some big smallmouth there too. Silver Lake in Virginia has some nice ones too.
If you get up this way keep in touch and let's get out fishing. We can help each other figure out more on the bass.
well I've been fishing bass for about 12 yrs. and knew wi dnr was stocking the river with LM bass and i've tried to know avail to catch some. I guess I'll just keep plugging away maybe i'll find some. I agree their are alot of great lm bass lakes with in 45 miles of me here in west duluth.A little surprised but not surprised that fish lake or even island lake don't have a great population of lmb But with gas prices out of hand i'll be pounding the river a little more this year.

Yeah there are some, but the numbers of largies are under 12 inches. Maybe more are there, but we have only found certain areas with nice largies and they aren't big and the numbers are low. Even having a few goto areas is iffy on any given day. I've taken a buddy that fishes lots of bass tournaments there later in the year and we only had one for sure largemouth on for a little bit. The rest of the time we were in slop and nothing happening. I do think there are more but I would be surprised if a person could get one limit of largies even one day in an entire year on the river, even on my spots. I wouldn't be surprised to see three in a day all 16-20 inches, but that's a great largie day on the river.
Just keep in touch and we could give them a try some time this summer. Hey I live in West Duluth too and with the gas, I know the deal, so I will be on the river alot.
