FISHING: The World Record Muskie Alliance calls Louis Spray's 63-inch catch a fake.

What do you guys think?  Personally I think it's a hoax..  A buddy thing.  But a nice fish either way, just not a record.  Too much controversary and nothing definite.

Innocent until proven guilty...

I assume that it had to be officially weighed and measurements taken.  Maybe these steps weren't taken back then, it was just by trust and word alone and photos.

If it wasn't officially measured and weighed, then everyone should be skeptical of the actually measurements of this fish.

But you also can say that somewhere in Wisconsin there is a musky that is even bigger then the one he caught.  So it is possible that the fish he caught is legit.

I don't think the fish and his records will be removed from the record books.  It has been officially put in the books and there is no definite proof that he faked the whole thing.  If this group has definitive proof, then it would have been taken off the books quickly and dismissed.  The group that did the research is basically letting everyone know that this fish could be a hoax and to be skeptical.  I haven't seen or heard of any definite proof he faked it or it was legite.

Verdict: most likely a very good fishing tale.  You know, the ones where the fish gets bigger and bigger as the story gets told more and more..

hey guys,

I think the record is bogus and should be removed!  All of the anglers that have multiple world records to their credit have been putting in sand, water or lead into the fish then having a bunch of tourist  wittness their catch.  Some have admitted it like len Hartman.  People in hayward have been holding on and defending a bad and poorly documented catch for years.  My two cents anyway, Craig

I think a record is tough, multiple records really tough and amazing, but most likely something is happening there.  I think if someone found a new pattern that has been over looked, maybe.   I think there are multiple reasons to defend it too.  Consider the amount of money the area makes with the record coming from there, or the pride that people in the community have about it.  It's truly priceless.

I do think there is a bigger fish some place and maybe several in several states.  I hope we see one on a league night, but that's going to have to be Craig's job, I am not getting them figured out.  But I haven't said uncle yet..  And probably won't..
