Ok, I am back at the hotel I have a cooler full of smelt and the weather was great.

Thanks Doug for the smelting experience.  It was nice putting faces to names. It was great meeting everyone and I hope I can come back up soon for some Crappie, Walleye and some monster Smallmouths. Fly Fishing will be one thing on my list.

Oh Yea and Loadmaster is the king of smelt.

Thanks everyone!!

Thanks Aqua, yeah the Loadmaster has it down.  I am getting there, but he has a lot of years of experience and it shows.  At least he is constantly showing the rest of us how it is done.

I think we ended up with a fair amount of smelt considering all the people that got some last night.  Obviously the run is ending and the numbers are down, quite a bit from Wed and Thursday nights.  Maybe by next year we will run a video tape of how it can be.   And we did not have an empty net all night.  That's a good night.

You're welcome anytime Aqua.

Alright Aqua and Smelt King, after your reviews of the sturdy poles and the first run with the wooden closet rods, one breaking and them for sure too weak.  I finally found the right stuff.  They were are Menards but in a spot totally separate from the closet rods and railings.  But they are basic unfinished wooden railings.  No knots, nice straight grained railings, and strong.  They are 8 feet long and I have them all rigged and ready for next year.  So all I have to do, is grab them when the run starts and make for the water.

Thanks Smelt King for helping me learn the finer arts of smelting and the little things that make all the difference.  The nets, the poles, the techniques, location, and most importantly the fishing buddies that are there to share the fun.

I finished cleaning the smelt. I filled 13 ziploc freezer bags at 8 dozen per bag.  Total 104 dozen or 1248 smelt.

Um I had enough of smelt for one day.

Majority of them were 6 to 8 inches lots of 10 to 11 inches.

5 of them just over 12 inches.

Oh and 4 gold shiners, 3 Goby's and 2 stikelbacks.
