I am going to hit the smelt this year and we are within weeks now. 4-5 weeks should be about right. If anyone hears anything keep me posted. I haven't gone into any insanely cold water in a while, so it's time to remind myself why it is not for everyone. Besides a good smelt fry with the fishing buddies sounds like a great idea. Maybe if we get enough we could have a league kick off party with a smelt fry and invite the sponsors and fishing minnesota guys too if they want to come by.
Anyone have a good batter for the smelt?

My parents used to do this when I was a kid and I have always wanted to smelt.

You're in for the smelting TopWater. I will post you as soon as we hear something. Last year several of the guys really had at the smelt. Even my son had many gallons. So they are out there sometimes. I haven't done it since I did it a bit during college and got spoiled when you could scoop up 50 at a time and get buckets full, or could feel them bumping into your legs while you scooped. Oh well those were the days.
We will have to do a Friday / Saturday deal, catch a bunch, then make up a bunch to go with the appropriate beverages and chips. Now that would be a great thing.
