Bloopers on Opener?
 (United States)
QuoteReply
There was some talk before opener about watching all the crazy things that happen at the landing during opening weekend. Here's what I got to witness...

We were next to go at the public landing on Fish. The driver before us had just put his boat in and handed the rope to his buddy before taking off to park. The one with the rope started pulling the boat toward the dock when the rope snapped! He waited on the dock expecting the wind to blow it to him, but it never got near the dock. Instead, it went around the dock out of his reach.

At this time, I had just put my boat in and my wife told him that we'd help him get his. He thanked her and she took off with the truck. I expected him to jump in with me, but instead he started walking on the rocks toward his boat. I dropped in the troller and headed over to grab his boat for him, as it was still out of reach.

As I got close to it, I asked him if he thought it would blow in to shore. He looked up, slipped, landed on his back on the rocks, then fell in to the water. Since he was now wet, he decided to walk out into the water to grab the boat. As he pulled it to the dock, his buddy arrived and chuckled while he made a comment like "Did you let it get away from you?" I felt so bad for him. I seriously expected him to smack his buddy!

Does anyone else have any stories from opening weekend?

It was opener 3 years ago.  I retired last year from the Fire Department here in Annandale. Well 3 years ago I got back home from fishing. I was going to make something to eat, When we got paged out for a vehicle in the water. Well, dispatch didn't have much info for use, so we got dressed enroute in our DrySuites in case we had to make a emergency rescue. We did not know if it was some type of Car Accident or What. We arrived on scene at the Granite Lake Public access, finding a Truck backed into the lake. I mean all the way into the lake. All you could see was about 6 in. of the top of the cab.  You got to understand a situation like this. Some people would be really upset about the situation there in and some will just laugh at themselves. I walked up to the owner and I could tell by the way he was smile he was laughing at himself, So my first question to him was,"If he caught any fish, and wheres the boat? He just shook his head and said, "Its not his day."  Well, he was just going out fishing,  backed the trailer into the water, got out, pushed the boat off the trailer, when all of the sudden, truck started to roll back. He jumped out of the way, and lost the rope to the boat. So not only is his Truck 6 ft under water, but is boat is floating out on the lake.  We got a wrecker there, I dove under and hooked up the wench and got the truck out. Some people fishing on the lake towed his boat to a house next to the landing until he was able to get it.  Since that day, I can honestly say, I have never gotten out of my truck when backed near or into water without having the parking brake engaged.
