Your best fishing memory?

Lets here your best fishing memory.

Mine has to be Mothers Day 2001.  My  new born daughter had been in the hospital since be born on April 7, 2001. For Mothers a friend of our's wanted to take myselfe, my wife and my oldest daughter out fishing for mothers day. We needed a break from the hospital, so we decided to go. My oldest was only seven at the time and she really hadn't been out "Walleye" fishing. We set up on a bar and were going to do a little bobber fishing. I had been trying to teach her about bobber fishing. Well she was set-up in the back of the boat. I told her  when/if the bobber goes down, pull up the slack, wait until you fill something and set the hook. We had only been sitting for a little bit when her bobber went down, she did just like I told her, but when she set the hook, there was nothing there. She brought the line up and her leech was gone, I told her run up grap another leech and get it back down right away. I rebaited her hook for her, she dropped the line right down, next to the motor. I told, her to watch it as it goes down, something may hit it right away. Well, she just opened the bale and sat down, I was watching and when her bobber hit the water it just kept going down. I told her, her bobber was down and she got all excited, but did just like I said. She set the hook and we could just see the pole bend. She played it for a couple sec. when it decided to run (She had a Snoppy rod and Reel) the Rod came out of her hands and the bale release was hit. My friend and I stood on the back of the boat just wondering how big it was. When all of the sudden we seen the bobber go swimming along the boat. We then knew the fish was still on and I handed her the rod and helped here real in her biggest she fish she has got to date.   It was a 27 1/2 in Walleye. We didn't have our camera with, it was down at the hospital, but we didn't ever want  her to forget this. We ended up keeping the fish and took many pictures when we got home. We were sorry we had to keep that fish. But, we think we would have been more sorry had we not.

Awesome story and keeping a fish at a time like that is fine and I'ld have done the same thing.  The photos and memories will last forever and probably helped your daughter get hooked on fishing.

Man this is a tough one.  I have so many fishing stories I just don't know the one to tell.  I'll think about it a bit.

Very cool story Robbo!

Some of my greatest fishing memories are with my family when I was younger.  We lived on a smallish lake in WI and my Dad used to take me fishing every evening after work all spring, summer, and fall long.  We had a canoe with a 2 1/2 hp Seahorse from the 50's and it would never start/run right, and often my Dad would end up "trolling" by paddling fast.   Those are some of the best memories that I have as a kid.

Also - my grandparents had a cabin on Eagle Lake in Ontario, and we would spend a week or two up there in the summers and at the time I did not realize how lucky I was to be fishing on such a beautiful body of water.

Lastly, my other grandmother took me to Alaska when I was 6, right before she got really sick, and she knew I loved to fish so she took me deep sea fishing and I caught a 36lb. Halibut.  Quite a fish for a 6 year old.

I can still remember these as if they happened last week.  Love fishing stories!

This is a tough one, as I have a lot of great memories. It's hard to narrow it down to just one. Most exciting was probably the 45 lb Amber Jack caught out of the Atlantic Ocean.

Most heart-felt has to be when my kids caught their first fish. My son's was a 2.5 pound bass just after we anchored for some panfish. My daughter wasn't as lucky. Her first was a tiny panfish, but she was just as happy. On another trip, however, she pulled in a 3 pound bass with her Barbie rod, which is now somewhere at the bottom of Fish Lake!
