Want to be a Captain?

I thought I would pass this plug along for the captains class that I took down in the Twin Cities.  Captain Kulibert's classes are well thought out and you actually learn quite a bit, but fun and relaxing at the same time.  A 6-pack is not for everyone.  It's the first step into piloting an inspected vessel or guiding in Federal waters and border waters.  Fishing guides in Minnesota DO NOT need this license or any license if you are not guiding on Lake Superior, St. Louis River/Bay, Mississippi River, Lake of the Woods, Rainy Lake or any border waters.

Hey FlyMaster, the Crappie King was looking for your books.

Load, you going to guide inland?  I am not planning on the training course or guiding on a border water, like the Captain Carson.

Yeppers, you need to have a Lake Superior Endorsement to guide on the harbor area, yes it's considered part of Lake Superior.

Also you can get a Limited captain's license in which you are restricted to certain waters.  Basically it comes down to the amount of time spent on a particular body of water.

Hear is a quick low down on what you need, rules might haved change but it's pretty close.

Fill out 6-pack application
Take the course, pass the test.
Pass a drug test, within 6 months of the test.
Take an oath to the CC.
Take first aid course.
Take cpr course.
Get fingerprints done with background check by the Federal Government.
360 days of on the water experience since the age of 18.
90 days within the past 3 years.
(A limited license basically means you don't have the 360 days, but need at least the 90 within the past 3 years.)

A day on the water is at least 4 hours.
