I sorta understand where your coming from, but most of the lakes in DABL are definetly within your limits.  It's all about what you do when you get there and fishing different spots that most other teams aren't fishing.  If your talking about getting to spots, like certain docks, then you need to add some more tricks to your bag, like fishing a deep point, or the first deep weed edge.  I consider docks community spots, sure the fish are there, with some docks being big fish docks, but I think dock fishing is boring.  I can understand why most teams fish docks, it's where alot of fish are and a lot of times the only fish that are biting within easy reach and it helps to put fish in the boat.

My team came in third (not very far from 2nd) on Big Lake with the slowest boat out of nine teams that night.  We were in a 16' g3, with a 25hp.  We didn't even worry about blast off, just let everyone go and followed behind everyone.  Didn't even fish a dock.  We stayed out in deep weed edge almost the whole night and didn't even see one boat doing the same thing.  We didn't put in numbers, but we got the pounds.

Cupcake, I might need a partner for the next 2 events in DABL, if your interested let me know.  I'm following up on another lead, but it's been 2 weeks with out an answer, so I'm looking around for someone else to fill in.  email me at ouitdee@yahoo.com if your interested, so that I have you email address to contact you.

Otherwise I know there has been some talk about creating a seperate B.A.S.S. league, upping the entry fee and payout to possible pull out some of the top teams from DABL to compete a higher level.  I started DABL last year for the main intent of getting bass anglers of all levels, even those who hardly ever fish bass.  Hopefully we can keep it that was for years to come.  I'm most likely not going to be fishing next year, because I'll be doing alot more scouting and doing some more guiding next year.

Hi Cupcake,  I think it would be a fun league, but you'ld still end up with people racing to spots and it comes down to sharing them and working around each other, without issues.  Most of the time all the boats are on a trolling motor and everyone is just fishing.  My son is running the Cloquet group with a 5hp on a small 14 ft boat and doing fine.  He has borrowed my boat 3 times, but I have a 17 ft with 90hp, not one of the big boys, but the nicest boat I have ever had.  I have been in 16 ft boats with 25 hp motors that go as fast as me, or within 10 mph of me, so major time advantage there.

I do think there are people that would fish it, if you want to start one, we'ld be more than willing to help get you going.  Even set you up with a spot out here to chat, or post your scores, etc.  And you could send someone to the Classic too.  Just be sure to keep the number of teams to 15 max.

I think a small boat league would be cool.  I would like to see more couples, father/son, father/daughter, or an all women's team.  That would be cool and I am sure more people would help point them in the right directions.  Maybe you could fish it with your son.  I have fished many with my oldest son, and that was very good.

Darrin,

When we set up our weekend bass league we kept that in mind.  We pre-draw take off positions for each event and you can't pass another boat unless you are heading to a completely different area or spot.  We did this to keep it open to the average joe who may not have a big boat and motor.  If you want any more info on it just let me know.

Mr. carson i would of loved to be a sub. but looking at where the tourny nites are located I don't believe i could make it on time. I deliver beer and thurs. i'm out of town and don't make it back till 4:30 or so (usally later) and to leave duluth and be there by 5:30 is not practical. Thank you for the offer. I agree you have to do something different. for me I'm more confident shallow fishing, docks, pads and shallow weed lines have tried deeper but i don't have the confidence be that a lack of trying and catching fish this way. It is something i should work on and practice more, but the lack of hook setting always brings me back to the pads and docks when iv'e tried in the past. Impatient i guess.

Brian yea i'd like some info you can email me at db034@juno.com or post it here so others can see.

Thanks Darrin
