Ryan fishes that area a lot and for catfish. I have fished it, but very little, more upstream from Brookston area to Floodwood and caught catfish to over 10 pounds. Stringers of 7 pounders are possible but 2-3 pounders normal. Really rigging for cats is best kept simple. A big enough sinker to hold position on the bottom, a hook size 1 to 3/0, and bait. Chicken livers catch lots of cats, mostly small, fresh cut bait, like sucker, catches bigger cats. Mainly look for the area between the rapids or faster water areas and the holes. The cats will sit in the holes during the day and move up to feed.
Catfishing is awesome and can be a ton of fun for everyone. Good luck.
You can take a boat up to Pine Island thats the first set of rapids that youll encounter.there are a few small streams that come out into the main river that have cats time to time.If your going by car drive in behind USG along the tracks there are places to park along the river banks and theres a road farther up that you can drive right to the river its off the brevetor rd.
As for rigging I like to use a 3 way rig with the dropper line of 10 lb test with a 1or 2oz bell sinker attached and main line of 20lb that way if you get snagged you dont loose the whole rig, keep the hook about 12 to 16 inches of bottom.Ive found this to work very well in the rocky bottom.Walleyes also can be had in many of these locations right before dark!
