It's a great lake & at times of the year you have a very good chance of getting large fish. There are tons of big walleyes & musky, personal best of a 321/2 inch walleye last fall...
The crappie bite does slow down but can still be caught out on deep weeds later in the year, I get them by accident while fishing walleye. That's one thing about that lake, could be fishin bass & get walleye, fishin crappie & get a big musky, you never know what monster is about to inhale your bait, bring a net !!
The MAJOR drawback on tonka as many fisherman know is it seems like every jetski made in America, every boat over 40 ft & every waterskier is on that lake from 9am Sat morning to 9pm Sun night & they all want to get from one end of the lake to the other 30 times each as fast as they can.... is the reason I fish it only weekdays & nights.... Sorry to vent on that issue, lived on & fished that lake for over 40 years, is a sore spot...
Sure does sound like a great lake. Hey we have the same problem on a couple lakes around here too. What's really annoying is that they have to get as close as they can to you, even though you are trying to fish. You can goto the only spot away from houses or cabins and they will find you and buzz you. I don't get that. They have the entire lake to cruise in and they go round and round, but treat you like you are there for them to corner on...
I will have to try it. Sounds like either real early or late in the year is best. Thanks, it is always fun to learn more about another water and more fishing.
Yes, it is very frustrating when they have 4 miles of open water but find it necessary to come within casting distance at full throttle... should see the looks in their eyes when they see me zing a 3/4 oz double willow blade their way, deer in headlights... he he....
