Welcome aboard Wallyhntr.. Unfortunately I haven't fished tonka, yet. But Supergoodfishingteen and Aquajoe have and I am sure will point you in the right direction.
Glad to have you on board.
Thank you Doug
Wanted to post that to see what people were planning on doing on opener, grew up living on the lake by the old log theater & now live on it in deephaven, know the lake very well...
We head out at midnight & usually start by tossin crankbaits into the shallow rocks & then move to live bait on the deep weed edges if they aren't shallow, have done very well shallow the past few years but this year looks to be a deeper bite. We seldom ever have to leave the lower lake to find the eyes but with the expected weather, the bite may be non existent, keeping our fingers crossed... Been doing very well with crappies lately, went out Monday between the rain showers on a weed hump in the middle of the lake & got into a bunch of 11-13 inchers, all were females full of spawn so they went back in...
Very cool. Maybe you can help us figure out Tonka. I love to catch walleyes and crappies, and with the largemouth and muskies, Tonka sounds like a lot better lake than I realized. Sounds like I have a few more reasons to fish it and you certainly have a lot of fishing experience on it.
I am going to be fishing the St. Louis River here. I'll be working a jig and minnow a lot, but some cranking, most likely 3 way rigs. The walleyes love it.
Do you catch crappies through out the year on Tonka, or is it a lot tougher when the weeds take over? Sounds like some nice ones.
