Just wondering how many of you have been out ice fishing and how did you do??

I haven't been out yet.  The other half went out Saturday and didn't do to well.  I plan on getting out this weekend with the little guy.

Been out several times with good success. Have dabbled in a mix bag of things. Spent a day with Gas Can hammering big northerns on tip-ups and ciscoes. Got into some 10-12 inch sunnies and crappies with Douglas, Outidee, and Matt P on Hay Lake, caught some crappies and walleyes on Fish, and on another "hot tip" from Gas Can hit Ely Lake in Eveleth and laid waste to 4-8 inch Perch. (Unfortunately he promised HUGE walleyes) That's not like Gas Can Look forward to many more outings, but still look longingly at the Ranger parked in my yard wishing for warmer weather. Well I have been out some. I am catching crappies mostly 10-12 inches, some every time so far.  I am out this Saturday on a hot bite for crappies and then walleyes.  I plan on limits of each by dark and have great odds of that.  I have heard of great bites on walleyes on 3-4 lakes right now, plus crappies on a lot of waters.  Pike are easy and perch pretty easy.  So I am working on eating crappies and then walleyes.  Steve and I have a game plan for Saturday.  We'll share how that works out.  Good fishing..

Well we got out but the hot bite was NOT.  We ended up with 13 + crappies, nothing big, just eaters.  Lots of bluegills and perch.  And several pike with one being 26-28 inches and thick caught on 2 lb test.  The pike was a blast.  We were fishing a small pothole lake that is almost all pannies with some pike of course.  The bluegills and perch were near bottom, but the blues would chase a waxie on a tear drop hook up 4-5 feet sometimes.  The perch were mostly within a foot of bottom and the crappies were suspended at 5-8 feet down over 10-12 feet of water.  Some crappies were just under the ice.  It seemed like the fish were in small groups cruising under the ice and you would get a few then quiet for a while.  Most of the crappies came to a small tear drop or jig with a crappie minnow.  The lake was mostly slush covered, so we were in that most of the time.  The bite was so slow we never made it out for walleyes.  Oh well more fish for next time, I guess.

It was a beautiful day for fishing.  Well Happy New Year and good fishing.
