Pike Tournament - What do you think?

GDS, do you think we can get enough teams to do it?  I think it would be a blast and I bet there are some very good pike fishing lakes around, any idea what lake to do it on?  I was surprised about the size and number on Island Lake north, but there are many lakes that can do it.  What do you think?

I think where it was held would have alot to do with how many teams would sign up. There are two local tournaments i fish, one is a walleye and pike tourney there is a fairly good turnout but i dont there is about 15 to 20 teams out after pike. The other is a pike only there is usually about 20 to 30 teams.  These have been going on for years, i dont know how eaisy it would be to start a new one thou.

Are these local (to Duluth) pike tournaments?  If so, I have never heard the faintest rumor about them even.  I think that if the timing of the tournament  worked with MMTS's & DABL's schedules, and other local tournaments,  we could get a decent number of teams.  After doing the multi-species thing for awhile now, the thought of just being able to target one species for a day sounds great.  Plus, who doesn't like the prospect of monster pike?

What lake is everyone thinking about?  There are pike in so many, it really comes down more to where do we all want to go.  I'ld like Vermilion myself, but I am not sure many want to go that far.  But it has big pike and a lot of them.  If the muskies haven't taken too many out.  And it's a big lake too, plenty of room for everyone.  Fish and Island aren't too bad around here, but we would see more and bigger ones on Vermilion.  Anyone have an idea where to do a pike tourney?

Vermillion would be fine with me.  It is an unfamiliar water at least as far as I go...  But that is a great excuse to make the short roadie and learn a little bit about it.  Rainy Lake would be a fun one too, but that is even farther than Vermillion.  What about Mille Lacs?  Is the pike population along the lines of the musky?  I know it has a really nice largie population but you never hear anything about it because of the musky and walleye fishing.   Perhaps this is the same for pike?
