Night 9, July 23 we were on the St. Louis River and the pike were biting, along with many other species of fish, as our scores show.

First place went to Team Choppers, Ben Biermaier and Brent Selden, with our only 5-species bag including rock bass, perch, catfish, northern pike and some very big bluegills.  Good job guys.  128 points is a great score.

Second went to Team Gone Postal, John Kytola and Bob Carson (again), with four species.  They had perch, catfish, northern pike, and a walleye for 121 points.  Third tonight went to Team Scared Fishless, John Michalski and Barry Bjorklund with 119 points.  The big fish for the night was Walleye and Team Barley Afloat won that, with a very nice 19.5 inch walleye.  The wildcard was for 9th and went to Team Fish Tales.

Congrats to everyone for a good time on a good time fishing.

Night 8, July 16 was our first night on Sturgeon Lake and fishing was tough, but our teams managed to score fish again.

First place went to Team Patience, Steve Ondrus and Dan Roach, with a 4-species bag including largemouth bass, a rock bass, a crappie and a limit of bluegills.  Good job guys.  110 points on our first trip to Sturgeon Lake is an awesome job.  I hear you prefished with Al "the Ringer" Ansell.

Second went to Team Gone Postal, with four species also and the same prefish partner, Al "the Ringer" Ansell.  They had a limit of nice crappies, a largemouth bass, a rock bass, and a couple bluegills for 92 points.  Third tonight went to Team TGIF, Ed Forrestal and Doug Pirila with 91 points.  4th went to the Choppers with 90 points.  The big fish for the night was Largemouth Bass and Team Patience also won that, with a respectable 16 7/8 inch largie.  The wildcard was for 6th and went to Team Barley Afloat.  Congrats to everyone for a good time on a good time fishing.

MMTS wants to say "THANKS!" to Bergey's Bar in West Duluth for contributing towards fishing equipment for our Take a Kid Fishing days.

Night 6, June 25 was a tough night for bass fishing, but a high scoring event for Island Lake South, near Moose Lake.  Great weather brought out lots of locals and boat loads of kids and families, that were fishing most locations and hard for many hours prior to our contest.  Along with that, some shoreline construction was going on and the water near them very muddy.  This was a good tough situation to fish, you had to fish the right fish and the ones not under too much pressure.  AND with most teams scoring over hundred points, everyone did great.

First place went to Team TGIF, Ed Forrestal and Doug Pirila, with a 6-species bag with the first ever MMTS limit of walleyes, limits of crappies and bluegills, and some rock bass, perch, and 4 largemouth bass for a record 184 points.  Not bad..

Second went to Team Gone Postal, John Kytola and Bob Carson, with another six species bag. Third tonight went to Team Barley Afloat, Pat Cooke and Karl Johnson.  The big fish for the night was largemouth bass and Team Choppers won that, with a respectable 17 inch largie.  The wildcard was for 7th and went to Team Frustrated, again, talk about lucky guys.  Congrats to everyone for a good time on a tough night of fishing.

Our rookie team of Lucky Not Good keeps bringing fish to the scoring and is taking an early lead in the Rookie of the Year standings.  Good luck guys.  They also had the ONLY limit of all bonus crappies, all over 10 inches.  Great job.

Night 5, June 18 was a tough night of fishing and lowest scoring event, in a LONG time.  Bad weather, higher water levels, dirty water, colder water temps and we started right behind a bad storm front.  These are the nights that test all our fishing skills.

First place went to the Old Farts, Rick Olson and Mark Jukich, with a 4-species bag with 5 bonus crappies, a few rock bass, perch, and a nice walleye for a score of 99 points.

Second went to Team Patience, Steve Ondrus and Dan Roach, with the only other multispecies bag - 3 species bag including rock bass, catfish and a pike. Third tonight went to Team TGIF, Ed Forrestal and Doug Pirila.  The big fish for the night was walleye and Team Old Farts won that, with a respectable 18.75 inch walleye.  The wildcard was for 8th and went to Team Frustrated.  Congrats to everyone for a good time on a tough night of fishing.

Night 4, June 11 was a high scoring event.  Good weather for a change, but Island Lake is always a tough egg to crack.  But teams are figuring it out.

First place went to Team TGIF with a 4-species bag with limits of northerns and smallmouth bass, including lots of bonus fish and a few rock bass and perch, for a score of 210 points.

Second went to the Scared Fishless with a 6 six species bag including bluegills, perch, rock bass, crappie, smallmouth bass and a pike. Third tonight was the Old Farts, again, with another five species bag.  The big fish for the night was smallmouth bass and Team Old Farts won that with a respectable 18 inch smallmouth bass.  The wildcard was for 4th and went to Team Patience.  Congrats to everyone for another great night.

Fishers of Men took a strong 6th place finish and keeps the run for rookie of the year heating.  The Team Lucky not Good scored another three species bag and is keeping the bar high.  Keep up the great work and good luck to everyone.

Night 3, June 4 was another tough night.  Bad weather all week, cold fronts, tough bites.  Still our teams got the job done.

First place went to Team TGIF with a 3-species bag with limits of walleyes and bonus crappies upto 12.5 inches long, along with a pike for a 127 points.

Second went to the good guys from Team Patience, with a three species bag including three big walleyes, perch and a pike. Third tonight was the Old Farts with another three species bag.  The big fish for the night was northern pike and Team Gone Postal won that with a respectable 32 inch pike.  They also won the wildcard for the night ending up in 6th place.  Congrats to everyone for another great night.

Team Better Lucky than Good is setting the pace for the rookie teams this year, consistently getting a fish to score.  Keep up the great work and good luck to everyone.
