Another cold night on the water. There was not much warmth in the 20 plus MPH wind of the lake. Rich and his son, Garrett (Walleye Pirates) got the only walleye of the night which got them the big fish award. Bob and Mike were wishing the big fish award was for bass as they got 3 very nice fish from 19"-19.75". The Big Dogs won by getting a mixture of fish including some nice crappies. Next week we are on Fish Lake and will launch at High Banks Resort. Hopefully summer will show up so that a cold beer will taste good after fishing! See you at High Banks next week.

Another cold, miserable night. I hope summer shows up soon! Fishing was slow for a second week in a row with most teams struggling to find fish. Congratulations to Mike & Bob on a nice mess of fish. They won tonight by a wide margin and picked up the big fish award with a 18 1/8" small mouth to boot. Rumor has it that they had a lot more time to fish with Bob not falling out of the boat tonight!

Welcome back everyone to our 13th year! Tonight was not as pleasant as last year's opener and the fish were not as cooperative. Congratulations to Jodi and Ray for a strong start to 2011. The Nuclear Manhattans picked up the Big Fish Award with a 19 3/4" walleye which was one of the only two walleyes caught. Next Thursday we are back on our normal schedule on Island Lake. We will launch at the Dam and it looks like Island has more water than last year. See you there!

 4/15/11
A final schedule was prepared and budget was finalized. Bob Carson will be the Treasurer this year. The league approved bonus points for a limit of fish/species:
3 pts = Limit of: perch, bluegills, crappies
7 pts = Limit of: bass
10 pts = Limit of: northerns
15 pts = Limit of: walleyes
Score sheets will be modified and handed out when we meet on Rice Lake.
It was also decided that the penalty for being late will be a 20 point deduction. The measuring boats will be the official time-keepers for the night.
The Bait Box has become a sponsor for the league this year! They will be providing gift certificates for the biggest fish awards.
The updated schedule has been posted.

(You used to be able to win with 300 points!) Good job to the Swingers and the Minno-Ette for passing the teams in front of them to close out the season. Congratulations to the Swingers for taking first place for the year and getting the Big Walleye Award for the night. The year end party is at Tony's. Directions: Follow Arrowhead to the UMD area. Go north on Dunedin for a block & take the first right and look for the cars about a block down on the turnaround. Call Tony at 348-0538 for more info. See you then! Sub fees=$5.

Can you believe that we are through Week #9 and heading into our final event? Next week is our last week and remember we will be starting at 5:15 and finishing at 8:30. The year end party will be the next night at Tony's house (same as last year) at 6:00 pm. You will need to bring something to throw on the grill and a side dish or dessert to share plus whatever you want to drink. Tonight was very warm and humid as we just beat the rain! Fishing was fairly good with the typical amounts of bass, pike, crappie, and bluegills caught. Congrats to the Grumpy Old Men who claimed the Big Bass award with a 17 3/4" fish! It seemed like more pike were caught and released in the protected slot than in the past years. See you next week! Sub fees collected=$5.

A very nice night to be on the water with very good fishing! Eight teams had a multi-species bonus and seven teams were over 100 points! Lots of good storylines tonight from Rich and son putting together a nice mess of fish for 2nd place to the Minno-Ette getting a 24.5" walleye to Smiley getting the big fish award with a 30" northern. (Sorry Rich, in all the chaos at the landing, I had a mistake on the Master Baiters score sheet; you tied with them, but should have taken 2nd because of the 28" pike which should be the tie-breaker for the night.) We are off next week and on Caribou Lake August 12th. We are starting at 5:15 and finishing at 8:30. Current big fish of the year candidates are:  1. Walleye - 26", SLR, Big Dogs, 2. Northern - 32.25", Grand, Master Baiters,  3. Bass - 18.75", SLR, Walleye Pirates.  Please let me know if these are not correct. Sub fees=$5.

Storm blew threw just before launch, and very mile NW wind.

Water temps much colder this year! (about 68 degrees?)

Weed pattern different? (Assume weed killer used on lake recently?)

Panfish were there, but not quite like the good old days.

I don’t know if the helicopter was watching us, or the Hell’s Angels, but they probably were not too interested in our gang of 10 boats!

Good job Swinger’s!

We are off next week, and resume at Caribou in 2 weeks.

It was brought up to consider an earlier start for Pike Lake on Aug. 20th, due to darkness issues.  We will vote at Caribou if we should start at 05:30 pm and finish at 08:45 pm on Pike.

Good night for the Big Dogs, who found the bass, and a nice effort from the MB.  Rough night for the rest of us, especially if your dog died at 3:00 pm.  Slight NE wind created a little bit of a cold front, but the sun was out.

We are off this week, and at Big Lake next week.

Thanks to Bob, for taking the title from Cory...as the most recent guy to fall into a lake! (Brrr!)

Cold North winds, and cool water temps left the bigger walleyes hard to find.  Rumor has it that the 'Dogs found their fish in a warmer, shallow bay?

Heads up next week on Fish Lake...High Banks parking lot was all torn up, but may be ready to go by May 28th? If not, common sense will be that we migrate down to the landing by the damn. For now, plan on launching at High Banks.

Welcome back to our 11th year!

Strong SE wind, and threatening skies set the stage.  Pike were biting, but the walleyes were a little finicky.

Pentinen Bros. Defended their 2008 win on Rice, but won’t tell us where they found the sunnies! (Good job boys!)

Please note the schedule change due to a conflict with another league.

(Swapped Fish with the River)

Also, remember to fill out your score card BEFORE you measure, to speed things up.

Don’t forget to circle your team name, and the lake. (It’s not that hard!)

See you on the water!

Great Season Guys! 5 teams in the 700’s! Lot’s of points this year, with a little bit of tightening up due to the 4-fish limit reduction from six.  Most guys seemed to like the change. (Made measuring go a lot easier, and less fish banging around in the box).
The big news tonight was the Master Baiter’s, who moved up from 5th to 3rd, thanks to a nice performance tonight.
Big fish of the year:
Walleye: 27.5” (R.Mullvain) Northern: 32” (K.Johnson) Bass: 20” (L.Pentinen)
Our thoughts and prayers are with Lethan Pentinen and his wife, after she received a tough medical diagnosis.  Make sure you sign Mike’s card, and we will be throwing in some of our extra sub-fees to include with the card.
…as for the party tonight, as always, bring a chair and a dish to share.
For directions to Mike’s House…Take Midway south past highway 2, take a right on Stark Road, go 1&1 /2 miles to Nelson road, take a right, and he is the first house on the left.  See you there at 6pm!

We will tentatively meet at Sammy’s in West Duluth at 5pm on April 15th, 2009.

East winds, water temps around 70 degrees. Clear skies. Looks like the fish were biting all over the lake, as the boats seemed pretty scattered.

See you next week on Pike.  Don’t forget a flashlight, as it will be pretty dark come measuring time.  And start thinking about what you can bring to Mike’s house for the party next Friday.

We are all pretty lucky to have the freedom to play this fun little game of ours, and we all wish to thank and salute Cory, who was recently deployed, and is flying into the Middle East, literally as I type up these results.  Watch your back buddy!

Tough bite on the walleyes tonight.

Unfortunately we had to enforce a Rule #1 penalty tonight.  For details or questions, feel free to call me, or one of the officers.

No need for a lecture here, but an important reminder to make sure you know all of the DAFL rules, and the MN fishing laws.

June 12th we are at Fish Lake.

(Mike W. or Doug M. please call High Banks resort to remind Tim that we are coming, and wish to launch at the resort.  (Guys usually stay after for a snack and beverage)).

Also, we need to decide on what to do about June 26th on Island Lake.  Scotty's league is launching at the damn at the same time.  We should probably move.

Welcome back!  Southwest winds, and a quite a few pike.

******************************************************
Welcome to our 10th season. (Can you believe it?)

After our meeting on April 15th, 2008, we voted in some significant changes for this year.

Fish limits have all been changed/reduced from 6 to 4 (except muskies -  2 max).

(This will reduce the number of fish in the livewells, and will speed up scoring.)

A 6 species bonus has been added, and that will be worth 60 points.

Use of camera to verify bonus fish for release has been approved for all nights.

This is to be reserved for bonus sized fish only, and should be done only if you cannot see another      boat that is close enough to verify the fish.

Finally, to keep up with changing muskie rules each year, we will simply state that any legal muskie is now worth 50 points, regardless of size.  A max of 2 muskies can be scored on a given night.

Good luck, and we'll see you on the water!

Cold, very wet, and a nasty east wind… other than that, it was a great night to fish?

Good job Big Dog’s for a strong finish.  One Crappie, and you would have reached immortality in scoring history!

Party is Friday night (8/21/09) at Tony Bauer’s.  He didn’t say what time to start?  I am guessing some time after 6:00 pm?

He lives just off of Arrowhead by UMD.  Take Dunedin north a block and take the first right, and look for the cars about a block down. (Call Tony (348-0538) if you need more specifics.)

**

See you next year for our planning meeting on Thursday, April 15th, 2010 at 5:00 pm at Mr. D’s in West Duluth.
