Car in Swan Lake(Dassel)  (United States)

Talked to a friend of mine Who was fishing Swan Lake yesterday.  His cousin has seen, by underwater camera, a car in Swan lake, In about 15 FOW, for about two yrs. He has asked the DNR if he could retrieve the car.  He thought it was a older 60's car.  He never had a chance to go after the car. Well yesterday, I guess, The DNR along with Litchfield Fire Dive team, And Meeker County Sheriffs office, were out there pulling the car out.  He thought the way they were going about there business, that they were treating it as a crime scene. From the info he heard, was that the tabs on the car were from 2000. But that is all anybody would say.

I have checked Meeker County Sheriffs, press releases and local newspaper press releases and can't any info. If anybody heres anything could you give a update.

I know there is numourous cars in the lakes around here, just funny the authorities would go after this one after being in the lake so long.

I haven't heard about that one.  1. In Slyvia- Thats a 68' mustang. 2. I grew up on Francis and rumor is that there is a Tractor out there. I have heard of a couple in Clearwater.

Francis huh?  That doesn't get much deeper than 18'-19' does it?

The one in Cedar is in about 40' of water I believe.  I guess some guy dropped a line down in the winter and caught crappies like crazy. Dropped a camera down to see what type of structure was down there, and seen the figure of a car.  By the model of the car, it appears it has been there for decades.

Found this in the Litchfield Review today:

Authorities seeking answers about submerged car in Big Swan Lake

Filed under:

An older model Dodge Omni was pulled from Big Swan Lake Sunday and authorities want to know how it got there.

The Carver County Recovery Dive Team assisted the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office in raising the submerged vehicle Sunday morning. It was unoccupied.

Two divers discovered the vehicle in Big Swan Lake a couple of weeks ago. It was located in about 18 feet of water, a half mile from the public access entrance.

Due to the location, authorities believe the vehicle may have fallen through winter ice.

“We feel it’s been in the water for quite some time,” Sheriff Mike Hirman said.

Meeker County Sheriff’s Office was notified June 1 about the submerged vehicle. Due to the depth of the water, the office contacted the Carver County team for assistance in raising the vehicle. The team attached float equipment to raise the vehicle to the surface before towing it to land.

It was taken to the Meeker County Impound Lot.

The Sheriff’s Office is attempting to locate the vehicle owner. But because the license plate number was last registered in 2000, the state of Minnesota no longer has the number on file, according to Hirman.
Hirman said his office hopes to use the vehicle’s serial number to locate the owner.

While in the water, the vehicle did leak some contaminants, including gasoline, Hirman said. He said the Sheriff’s Office will likely forward the case to the County Attorney for review of charges.

Assisting in the vehicle recovery effort were Meeker County Boat and Water deputies, Dassel Fire Department and the Litchfield Rescue/Fire/Dive Team. Gold Cross Ambulance also stood by.
